Sensory development is crucial for early childhood development because it forms the foundation for many higher-level cognitive and motor skills. Sensory helps brain development, cognitive development, motor skills, language development, emotional regulation, social skills, body awareness, creativity, imagination and so much more! Sensory experiences provide the building blocks for a wide range of skills and abilities that children will use throughout their lives. Encouraging a variety of sensory activities in early childhood can have a positive and lasting impact on a child’s development.
Activities that engage the sense of sight, including toys with bright colors, contrasting patterns, and objects that move or light up.
Introduction to different sounds and music, possibly involving musical instruments, interactive toys that produce sounds, and singing
Age-appropiate toys and materials may be used to introduce babies and toddlers to basic shapes and colors, fostering early cognitive development.
Opportunities to touch and feel a wide variety of textures through toys, fabrics, and sensory materials like playdough or sensory bins.
Activities that promote the development of fine motor skills, such as picking up small objects, stacking blocks, and using utensils for self-feeding
Activities that encourage larger muscle movements, such as crawling, standing, cruising, and even early walking for some babies. This could include play mats, tunners, and soft climbing structures.
Gently introduce newborns to various sensory experiences in a supportive and comforting environment. At this early stage, sensory classes focus on providing a calm and soothing atmosphere to help babies adjust to the world around them
Sensory classes for infants aged 3-6 months are designed to provide a stimulating and interactive environment that supports their sensory development. During this period, babies are becoming more aware of their surroundings and are able to engage with their senses in a more intentional way.
Sensory classes for toddlers aged 1-5 years are designed to provide a dynamic and stimulating environment that encourages exploration, learning, and development through various sensory experiences. At this stage, toddlers are more mobile and have developed a greater capacity for interaction
Our classes are 45 minutes OT Lead sessions. In this time parents will be able to learn about the senses and children will able to make and play with the activities while building developmental skills. All classes will have a take home component and handouts.
Each sesson the class will have a new theme so babies and toddlers can explore new concepts, increase their vocabularies and develop new interests.
In addition to our sensory classes, our groups are a good way for families to get to know other families with kids similar ages
